Recommendations for Toronto

Hi, Leslie,

I had a fine meal at Messis (south side of Harbord and a block west of Spadina) the last time I was in Toronto. Here's the review I posted on tor.eats:

A couple of people suggested I try Messis. I went there last Monday night. My first impression was surprise at how much business they were doing on a Monday night, especially Easter Monday. All the dishes that were passing by me looked beautiful. The restaurant itself was beautiful. Everything on the menu looked appealing, so I asked the waiter for suggestions. I ended up with crab cake, Asian style, and Atlantic salmon wrapped in egg roll wrapper with wild rice. Both were superb. Having scarfed down these two major dishes, I wasn't planning on ordering dessert, but I was seduced by the desserts the folks at the table next to me and decided to try the blood orange tart with orange sorbet. The tart was unremarkable, but the scoop of sorbet served along with it was intensely flavorful, maybe the best thing I ate that evening.

Eating at Messis was a memorable occasion. The chef's style reminded me a lot of some of the better restaurants here in my home town of San Francisco. I would heartily recommend Messis.

I had a surprisingly good meal at the top of the CN Tower as well. I don't normally patronize revolving restaurants, but I was at the tower as a tourist and didn't feel like making the effort to find another place to eat. I was surprised what a nice job the chef did. It's a nice place to eat alone (which I was on that trip), as you can look at the pretty view during your meal. Bring lots of money, though. They don't give the food away.

You might want to post the same message on tor.eats as the folks there would know more about the topic than we do here in "ba."

Totonto should be nice this time of year. Enjoy your trip and let me know if you come across any "finds."
