My one suggestion is a family run Italian restaurant on the NY side. The restaurant's name is Fortuna's Deluxe. It's off Pine Avenue (route 62 business) on (i think) 17th street, an old Italian neighborhood. Call them up and ask for the exact location.

They have great Veal parmesan, and a great house salad dressing. Stay away fro the vegitables, they're canned. Usually you can substitute pasta for the vegies (at a small charge).

Things to do while visiting Niagara Falls:

Towers on the Canadian side (skip the US tower)
Maid of the Mist (boat ride _below_ the falls)
Cave of the Winds (walk in the gorge by the falls)
Whirlpool cable car ride (ride above the gorge in a swaying
            cable car)
Goat Island (walk in the rapid off three sisters island)

The Canadian side has the better view, the US side (Goat Island) gets you closer to the action.

have fun,

gary

If you want to spend the $$$, try the revolving restaurant at the top of the Skylon Tower, Niagara Falls, ONT. The food in the revolving dining room is very good (not *quite* excellent, but very close), and the view is spectacular. Ambience is very nice. There was a piano player at the bar pounding out mostly jazz. Service is pretty good - more on that later. Reservations are *highly* recommended.

My fiancee and I took my parents there about a month ago. We didn't make reservations (last minute decision), but we got extremely lucky and walked up to the reservations booth right after someone had called to cancel their reservations :-). The wait would have been at least an hour and a half.

It cost me $200CAN plus tip ($25 CAN) which worked out to about $185-190US for four people. We had drinks, soup, dinner, but no wine and no deserts (couldn't fit any more after dinner :-).

The service was pretty good, but the waitress forgot my father's drink twice and didn't bring several other things when asked - I start deducting from the tip about 10-15 minutes after I ask for something. You must remember, though, that your table is always moving in relation to the kitchen.

Try to get your reservations for 7:30 to 8:00 pm. Then you will be able to see the falls during daylight, and also at night when they turn on the lights.

The resaurant takes an hour to make one full revolution, so you should be able to see the falls at least twice during the meal.

The Skylon also has a buffet dining room above the revolving dining room. The view should be the same, but I don't know how the food is, what prices are, or whether reservations are recommended. It *is* cheaper than the revolving dining room, however.

If you end up going, let me know if the service thing was just a fluke (as I suspect), or if they are always kind of slow.

Sorry I can't recommend places to stay, but my parents live about 45 minutes south of Buffalo, so I never use a hotel when I'm there - I sponge off the folks :-). However, since it is a very touristy place, there are quite a few nice hotels and a lot of bed-and-breakfasts on the Canadian side.

Good luck, and enjoy the trip!!
