For the uninformed, Peking duck and BBQ duck are not quite the same. BBQ duck is available from any BBQ shop. Many good places around town. Dundas and Spadina area has several. A few on Spadina and more on Dundas east of Spadina near Huron. For take-out, you can buy a the duck whole or half. They will chop it up. A good place is one that's busy! Some of the places also have some tables for a quick plate of BBQ meat on rice. Broadview and all the other chinatowns in the GTA have BBQ shops. (Again the busy places with Chinese buying BBQ are a good bet to be good.) Peking Duck uses the whole duck and is served as two dishes. First the duck skin and meat are sliced into bytes size pieces. It is then served with a very thin tortillas, thin slivers of green onions, carrots and Hoy Sin sauce. Make your self a wrap and eat. The skin must be crisp and the fat under the skin gone. They take the rest of the duck back into the kitchen where it's chopped up and brought out for the bone lovers to clean any meat off the bones. (My favourtie part.) We've had it a restaurant called "Perfect Chinese Restaurant". It's on Sheppard near Brimley (4800 Sheppard in the mandarian centre IIRC ) It fairly good, but then I'm not picky on food. It's not the best, but it's a place our family goes to often amd is not expensive. I'm sure someone will say that one of the "fancy" expensive chinese places is better. This place has the 'english menu', a chinese menu and set dinner menu on the wall. Each set dinner (called "wor choy" in cantonese) has 4 to 6 dishes. The Peking duck is usually on one of the set dinners or Peking duck is a special price when 2 item over a certain price is ordered a la carte. Weekends can get busy, so you might have to wait. It's open very late! Dim Sum there is cheap and is fairly good. Another place we like is in Market Village at the north end of the plaza. (Sorry, I don't remember the name, but if you use plaza entrance off Kennedy Road at the lights north of Steeles, you will see it.) It's serves good food and is very busy most nights. Peking Duck is prett good there too. If it's too busy or it's booked for a private party, you might try the Mongolian Buffett a few doors south. The cooking aroma from the kitchens make me hungry just thinking about it. Howard (food is meant to be eaten, not be delicate looking and pretty. :-))
