For lunch, I like Palapas (fresh Mexican) at Front and Pine. There's good Japanese at Tachebana on Mission just East of Fremont St. Tadich Grill is on California just up from Pine. Upscale and uneven is the restaurant in 101 California (enter on Fremont). Oh, and there's the Swiss-Italia deli for lunch, also in 101 California.

We were pleasantly surprised by Roy's -- Hawaiian Fusion cuisine, corner of Misson and 2nd Street. Surprised because they are a pseudo-chain (started in Honolulu, now have about a dozen locations along west coast and Hawaii) but they had really good, inventive, well executed dishes (we only tried seafood).

Boulevard is good.

If you don't mind a bit of a walk (about a mile, I'd guess) then along the waterfront/Embarcadero by Brannan you have Slanted Door (thread-merge!), Delancey, and Townsend, as well as 21st Amendment at 2nd between Bryant and Brannan.

If you want to catch a movie in the evening, you can get some decent food at the Metreon (Mission and 4th St), in their "pseudo" food-court. Firewood Grill is my favorite -- pastas, salads, pizzas, etc.
