Pizza My Heart

is the best east coast/midwest/whatever
thin crust pizza i've been able to find in the bay area.

in Capitola.

there used to be one in downtown SC
but i think they're gone. since the earthquake?

there also used to be one in SF on clement street near 11th or something -- but that one is long gone...

i'll also second the vote for Real Thai,
mentioned by someone else

For lunch, I always urge people to go to Real Thai at Soquel & Seabright, across from Rio Theater, and have the smoked fish curry over noodles, with an underlayer of crisp raw veggies. Unfortunately this great dish is only available at lunch. Dinners are good there too, especially the curries, but that lunch dish is unique. If you like things a little spicier, be sure to order the "green" (actually kind of orangey when you look at it) house-made hot sauce. I also like the little sushi bar on the way up the hill in Capitola, whose name escapes me. I don't think of Santa Cruz as having that many great restaurants, so I think I'll just stop here. No wait, O'mei on Mission, basically Chinese food with a more international flair, is also worth a visit; I love their "red pepper rice."

They're still in downtown Santa Cruz, on Pacific Ave. across the street from Logo's bookstore. The owners recently sold out but the new owners are making the same exact pizzas.

I'll add another vote. Great place.

Also:

Mobo Sushi - lots of weird rolls and decent quality sushi.
Often have loud, obnoxious live bands, though.

Pearl Alley - pricey but great food with a changing menu.

Oswald's - similar to Pearl Alley, but has only been there a
   few years

O'Mei - liked by some, not liked by others. I like it!

Wonderful, wonderful place, if you're into good breakfasts. Few notes: open til 2pm only, closed on mondays. and, if you order pancakes and home fries to go, they DO stay hot and edible for the 35-minute ride back over the hill to San Jose. :)
