Harbor Village at Embarcadero Four (a couple blocks from Chinatown) is very good, a bit more upscale in decor than Gold Mountain. Ton Kiang, 5821 Geary Blvd (at 22nd Ave) is as good as there is- not the normal hub-bub of a Hong Kong Din Sum palace but each item is above the norm. The Geary bus will take you from the downtown area. Our favorite is Jade Villa in Oakland. 8th and Broadway. The selection on Sunday is amazing and the food is excellent. You can ride BART (the subway) to within a block of the restaurant. If you're a dim sum fan don't limit yourself to a Sunday. Al Sharff Truckee, CA

You should try some of the Chinese places on Clement St around 8th Ave. Take the Geary 38 or No. 2 Clement bus. There is a small place I went to when I lived there, and each time I return I always visit. Also there is a great Chinese Rest. at around 45 and Balboa next to the movie house.
