I was in San Mateo at lunchtime this weekend, and stopped in at Zeeba on Third Street. (I recall that some Middle Eastern place in San Mateo has come up in ba.food, but I can't remember what it was called -- I have a feeling it wasn't this place.) Then menu made no accomodation for lunch - prices on their kabobs and other specialties were all higher than I wanted to pay. But they did have a buffet with various rices and stews, so I tried that. The chicken stew was pretty good, but the other meats (beef and lamb) were dry and not adequately tender. Overall, I wasn't very impressed. Has anyone here tried their dinner menu? I also have a couple of San Mateo questions: 1) A few months ago, someone here recommended a place called Island Barbecue or maybe Island Grill (I recall "island" was a Hawaiian reference, and I think it was on B St.). I've tried unsuccessfully to find it, and asking the phone company's information service also drew a blank. What's the story with this place? 2) One of my favorite bakery-cafes on the Peninsula, the Grace Baking outlet on Third St., is closed. Does anyone know whether perhaps it has moved elsewhere, or is it entirely gone?

The food was very good. The buffet is only so-so -- comperable to the "bad" Indian buffet on 3rd (Clay Oven) and much worse than the "good" Indian buffet on 3rd (Bombay Garden). > I also have a couple of San Mateo questions: >1) A few months ago, someone here recommended a place called Island Barbecue > or maybe Island Grill (I recall "island" was a Hawaiian reference, and I > think it was on B St.).
