Buyer Beware!!!!

Last night our investment club attempted to have dinner at:

      Furama Restaurant
      46850 Warm Springs Blvd. Fremont
      510 770 8989

We had met, and eaten, at Furama in Novemeber 1995 with no incident. Last night was different, however.

We made reservations at Furama for 10 at 7 p.m. and had requested they use their partitions to partition off a table because we discuss club business over dinner. They had confirmed the reservations and indicated that our plans were fine with them.

Eight of us came to Furama last night. We attempted to order a "Supreme dinner special" for six people (because our experience indicated that ordering 8 dinners for 8 people was too much food for us). When we tried to place the order, an employee came into the room and said that, because of the partitions, we needed to order a minimum of $10 of food per person. We pointed out that our order of 6 "Supreme dinners" more than met that minimum. Then he told us that we couldn't order from the dinner menu to get $10/person, that we'd have to order $10/person off of the single dishes section. So, we selected several dishes, which came to more than $10/person and attempted to order again. At this point, two other employees came in and said that our order had to be a $20 dollar minimum. We explained to them that the previous individual told us that we had to order $10/person of individual dishes. They would not take that order. We then told them that they had now changed their story enough times that it appeared that they did not want to serve us. They did not respond. We decided that we didnt like this and got up and left. They did not try to persudae us to stay.

The restaurant was less than half full. There were no other large groups there, or waiting. There was no attempt on their part to accomodate us. In fact, despite the confirmed reservations, they refused to serve us, with no explanation.

Whoa!!! I guess the dim sum crew is much different! I've never had that kind of problem with the staff there, even when there were only two of us and we were eating light during the most crowded dim sum hour.

I did eat there for dinner twice and was disappointed in the quality of the food the second time, so I never went back. For dinner I would recommend Ho Chow instead.
