Yesterday, I stopped in at a new fast food Indian place in PA.
It's located on El Camino, near the intersection with Curtner, right across the street from Lee's Comics and Compadres, right next to the A1 liquor market.
It looks like this place is Indian cuisine's answer to Mr. Chau's
Chinese food. I say this for three reasons. First of all, it's dirt cheap. You get any two items for $1.99, and any three items for $2.99. (Rice counts as an item.) Secondly, the food is surprisingly good for being so cheap and so fast. It's not the best Indian food I've ever had, but it was decent-- and for the price, it was excellent. Much better than other Indian fast food places that I've tried (like Bombaywala and that place on Calif. Ave). The third thing that makes me think of it as an Indian equiv. of Mr. Chau's is the fact that they also sell donuts there. The place used to be a donut and ice cream store, and they've continued selling both.
Anyway, I went in with a friend, and between the two of us, I
got to taste six different dishes. All of them were decent, although none were spectacular. The food quality, IMHO, was comparable to that of the average Castro Street Indian lunch buffet, or perhaps even a little better. There were about 12-14 dishes from which one could choose, at least two thirds of which were vegetarian.
So, if you've been looking for quick, decent, and extremely low-
priced Indian food in PA, you might want to give this place a try. They're open for both lunch and dinner, although I'm not sure if they're open on weekends.
