If you want the best and price is not object, we dined supremely well at the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton. I've not dined at other French restaurants in San Francisco, but I've dined in many restaurants in NY, Paris and the French provinces and I'd doubt you could do better. The food was world class. The waiters and the wine steward were excellent. As I noted, it is among the most expensive restaurants in San Francisco, but *really* good. ;-)

The food was excellent and the serice impeccable. It is very art neauvou (sp?) in design and a bit sinister. Try the cocktail with Champagne and pastis. It was wonderful!
