Alfred's is generally regarded as one of the two best steak houses in SF (the other being Harris' [sic], on Van Ness). It used to be on Broadway in North Beach, but recently moved to 659 Merchant, an alley off Montgomery between Washington and Clay.

Just a hop/skip/jump away from the Embarcadero Hyatt on California St is the Barbary Coast, a longtime favorite for steaks, cocktails, and other (currently) forbidden pleasures. As a Steak Snob myself, I realize that everyone's idea of 'good' varies, but I doubt you'll run out of the place screaming. Barbary Coast is an easy walk from the Hyatt; if i recall correctly, you can almost see the Hyatt from the front door of the restaurant.
