Quick TR for The House (1230 Grant St., S.F.):

Very good dinner last night there. For three people, we started with the fried calamari (hot, fresh, not rubbery, coating very light), spring rolls (just a little spicy with the sauce). I had the Chilean sea bass, which was as good as advertised, served with a soy-based dip and sides of noodles and steamed broccoli/carrots. My companions had the Arctic char (lightly breaded and sauteed), served with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies (same set) and the grilled scallops with gnocchi (of which, I'm told, the gnocchi were better than the scallops). For dessert, we had the creme brulee (very good, no whiff of propane) and the banana cake/macadamia ice cream (also good, but not as good as the creme brulee). The chocolate dessert thing was sold out.

Ambiance was a little noisy, but no where near, say, Tied House on a Friday evening. We could hold a pretty normal conversation without straining too much. Service was prompt and attentive, but not pushy; the waiter also went out of his way to hail us a cab while we were finishing up.

Before tip, the bill was about $90; no liquor, just some iced teas, Pellegrino, one regular coffee and one pot of tea.

We plan to go back...as often as we can :)

Thanks to all for the recommendations!

Steve
