Had dinner at Beausejour in Los Altos recently. Our group of about 12 seemed to have the whole place to ourselves on a Wednesday night. Just us and the guitarist, who was a pleasant addition. It's a French restaurant started, I believe, by a Vietnamese family at least a dozen years ago. The ambience is pleasant, heavy Victorian furniture, divided into several rooms.

The food was ok. I had boiled, er, braised duck in a reddish sauce. The duck was tender, the sauce just ok. It looked like the same sauce was poured over most dinners.

An escargot appetizer came in 3 little ramekins with flaky crust top. The escargot were ok but came with almost no sauce and only tasted faintly of garlic. Half the fun of escargot is sopping up the garlic butter with some good bread.

Dessert was flan, which was (wait for it) ok. A friend's apple tart looked good but was served cold when warm was expected.

3-course fixed-price dinner of duck, salad and flan was $23 (the escargot was extra). It's possible to spend lots more by ordering a la carte. Can't talk about the wine because I didn't have any.

There was nothing there to tempt me back, really. If that was a typical evening, I'd say they're not long for this town.
