I just had two meals to remember and I though I should share them you all of you.

First, on my birthday (9-10) my friends took me to Gardens of Taxco, a Mexico City style Mexican restaurant where you choose from 14 entries described for you by Frank or Ramon as there are no menus. What follows is a multi-course meal that rivals anything I ever got in Mexico City or anywhere else in quality taste and presentation. The reality is I have been going to this place since I was in my 20s and I have passed 50 some years back now. I have had all 14 standard items and many specials they add from time to time without ever having had a meal that was less than wonderful. The only problem I find with the place is it is in LA and I am here in Kent.

The second meal was a bit simpler and to purist might sound a bit sacrilegious but I've been going to this place since I was a teenager and they make it the way I like it. It's called the Jolly Jug and its in El Monte, CA where I went to High School. There I had a Pastrami Dip sandwich which is truly food of the gods. I even brought a friend from LA who agreed that it was wonderful (He had driven past many times but never stopped in.) The dip part is a light brown viscous gravy found nowhere else in the universe. And they serve these half sour pickles that can be found nowhere else on earth. Messy as hell, Best lunch ever.

I know they are not in or near Seattle but if you ever plan a trip to SoCal and want to try one or the other email me and I'll send you the exact locations/directions.
