Any opinions out there? My personal favorite is Joe Allen's in Abilene, Texas. Also, does anyone know where to find deep-pit BBQ beef? (That's where they bury the meat with hot rocks/coals and slow-cook it--sort of like Kahlua pig in Hawaii.) Dave

Heinze's was mentioned as one of the best in the country in a Food and Wine article and I must say I have to agree. All cooked with pecan wood.
>>Flint's in Oakland CA gets my vote - but my experiences are limited. Rumor >>has it that @21st and San Pablo in Oakland there is a gathering of BBQ >>joints. Flint's and Everett&Jones (with Berkeley and Oakland locations) are both worth a trip to the Left Coast.

Current recomendations on Memphis BBQ: 1. Neely's, On Jefferson (the Med Center) and on Mt Moriah. Memphis's BEST BBQ sandwiches and RIBS. 2. Interstate BBQ, South Third street. Great ribs, sandwidhes and BBQ spaghetti. Same family as above same damn good taste. 3. Corky's, Poplar ave. Hard to go wrong with their ribs or sandwiches. 4. The Rendeveous (world Famous) Downtown. Best Dry ribs on the planet, a experience to remember. Jeff If it aint pork, it aint BBQ.........Also 2 thumbs up to Fuzzy's BBQ in Lexington NC, best NC style BBQ ive ever had !
Sticky Fingers in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

It was mentioned that California doesn't have any good BBQ joints. Well here are my two favorites Johnny Rebs' Southern Smokehouse serves catfish, Brunswick stew, huspuppies, chicken-steak, barbecue ribs, links and omlette, Dixie Beer, Lemonade in Mason jars, blackened prime rib etc. The dishes are smoky and succulent. The only remaining location that I know of is at 4663 Long Beach Blvd. Long Beach, CA (310) 423-7327. Dinner for two normally $20 - 26. Joey's BBQ (located in Chino and Upland, CA) is the brain child of the former chief of the LBJ Ranch during his Presidential term in office. They serve BBQ ribs, beef, chicken, links, ham, chops etc. Average meals $10 - 20 per person.
Well, I can't speak of the best BBQ in the U.S.A. but I can speak with assurance that the best in New England is REDBONES in Somerville, Mass.
Best Barbeque in world: Dreamland, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Dinosaur Bar B Que in Syracuse, NY. Definately. -King of Swank

I've always been sorta partial to Fat Boys, found in various locations in Florida and the south. In Columbus, Ohio, Marble Gang on Mount Vernon Ave is tops.

And 20 miles SE of Washington, DC, in Waldorf, Maryland, it's Johnny Boy's. On Route 301 heading down toward the Potomac River. Beautiful quality sliced pork. A stacked sandwich is about $3.75 and worth more. Big greasy steak fries, too. You can just feel your arteries clogging up.... --Janet
MY vote is for The Ironworks, Austin, Texas. Melissa Marie
Peeble's in Auburndale, Florida. Big John's Alabama BBQ in Tampa. Kojack's (for ribs) in Tampa. Chuck's in Opelika, Alabama. Lexington #1 in Lexington, NC.
Austin's on the Old Dallas Highway in Waco, TX. Bonette
says... > >Austin's on the Old Dallas Highway in Waco, TX. > > >Bonette I know Philly doesn't exactly have bragging rights to barbeque, but Phoebe's on South Street near 23rd makes a right tender beef brisket which rivals most beef barbeque I've had north of the Mason Dixon. Can't find a real good pork barbeque since Audrey's closed.

Well, east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon line anyway, it's hands-down to be found at the East Coast Grill in Cambridge, MA! I'm not sure there is a best barbecue restaurant. BBQ is regional and style varies with geography. Still, my vote is for Country's Barbecue in Columbus Georgia. Grif Morpeth
