Stamey's in Greensboro- been cue'ing forever.

Old Smokehouse in Charlotte they actually smoke using mesquite- believe it or not, it's a Greek-owned family restaurant that's been in business about 40 + years. Different but excellent

Allen & Sons 1 in Chapel Hill on hwy 86, the other between Chapel Hill and Pittsboro on 15-501. They split their own wood -with an axe! Do order their french fries- hot, a bit greasy, skin-on... pure heaven) and cole yummm slaw.

There's a little side of the road place in 74/9 in Lake Lure, NC. They have a picnic table or two but it's a walk up little white frame building. Not likely you'd go near there m if you're sticking to interstate driving, but if you need a side trip somehere, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are worth it.

Cooper's in downtown Raleigh. Skip Bullock's in Durham. You will be glad you did.

North Carolinians? There's places in Greenville and down east- help the man.

Coming from Florida to NH, you will probably be coming up I-95. In that case, when you get to the area of Goldsboro, NC, take highway 70 east. Just on the other side of Goldsboro on the south side of the road, you will find Wilbur's. They serve up some of the very best barbecue anywhere.

Miranda obviously has some experience with North Carolina Barbecue. Her recommendations are very good. A couple of comments...

The Allen & Sons on highway 86 is excellent -- one of the very best. The one on 15/501 is no longer owned by the Allen family, and they now cook their barbecue with gas. Not worth the trip for me.

In Raleigh, I would add Murrays on Old Poole road.

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Dale- my mistake- this little place is in Chimney Rock rather than
Lake Lure. The two villages are side by side- and the place you want is in the middle of the tourist-zone, but it's pretty doggone good.

Thanks, Leonard. What's the place in Greenville? Do you know the
one I mean? I think there's also one in Rocky Mount that's said to be worth a trip.

Funny you should mention them. I live about two miles from that place and they serve some of the best 'cue I've ever had. Great ribs.

Bill Spoon's place on South Boulevard in Charlotte is only open for lunch, but worth a try.
