What's yours? A couple of my old faves have passed on, so I'm looking... I live on N. side, so ones in that general area especially welcome! My current fave is Mi Nidito, but it's almost impossible to get in without a long wait. Other good --> excellent ones are Club-21 (best machaca & salsa in town) & , shoot, the one just S of Convention Ctr, been there forever, has an eastside branch.... It's terrible to have no memory. Favorite Mex. rest in Tucson?
El Charro won an award one year for being the #1 Mexican Restaurant in the USA. Many people seem to like it, but I went there twice and didn't like the food at all. The atmosphere is festive though, and the decor interesting. You just don't go to the northside for Mexican food, by the way. I say this as a life-long northsider. My faves in Tucson would probably be Minidito's, Crossroads (both on the south side), and for cheap mid-town fare, Sanchez Burrito. -N On Mon, 22 Nov 1999, Joel L. wrote: > I'm no expert, because I haven't spent a lot of time down there for some > years, but six or eight years ago I tried a place downtown, I believe called > El Charro, in a quaint old building on Court St. Great carne seca (which you > can't get up here in the Phx area). My absolute fave is Rosa's at Prince and Campbell. The salsa is *very* good. If you want more experimental mexican food, with amazing flavor and spices, try Cafe Poca Cosa.

I agree that Rosa's has good Sonoran style food and agree about the salsa -- it used to be on my favorites list. Unfortunately, I've taken Rosa's off my list because the quality of the service has deteriorated significantly over the last year. I like the food, but the abuse from the staff is too much for me! > If you want more experimental mexican food, with amazing flavor >and spices, try Cafe Poca Cosa. The food at Poca Cosa earns my vote for best in town. The food is not Tex-Mex/Sonoran, but rather is Oaxacan. The salsa at Poca Cosa is a tad better than at Rosa's, for my money. (Evaluating salsa is very subjective.) The menu at Poca Cosa changes, depending upon what's fresh, and the food is full of vegetables and fruits and is relatively low fat compared to Rosa's. Also Poca Cosa has desserts to die for. HTH.

[after consulting with spouse] El Minuto. Both are +/- equally good-tasting, IME; downtown is more atmospheric. It's our favorite that we can actually get into... Cheers -- Pete Tillman (again)
My personal favorite in Tucson is La Parilla Suiza, which I believe also has two locations in Phoenix. Jeremy Snavely [email removed] Jerry C. wrote: : In article , Patrick G. I'm no expert, because I haven't spent a lot of time down there for some years, but six or eight years ago I tried a place downtown, I believe called El Charro, in a quaint old building on Court St. Great carne seca (which you can't get up here in the Phx area). Last year I also tried their new place on the east side, which I recall as very good, too, except the atmosphere is built into a strip mall location; so I'd rather go downtown next time.
