The only identification here is the name Mrs. E.B. McLean, taken from caption cards and negative sleeves that the Library of Congress has not verified, so the sitter's identity rests on that early label. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of the Bain News Service, a New York picture agency that supplied photographs of public figures and news events to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Glass negatives of this size were a standard tool for press photographers of that era, before film became common.
