The caption names this sitter as Marion Kennedy, with the married name Mrs. D. Coddington, but the Bain News Service recorded that identification without verifying it, and no date survives in the record. The glass negative comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain's New York agency, active in the early twentieth century, supplied news and portrait photographs to newspapers, so this plate reflects the fast, practical work of commercial press photography of that era. Its small format and original glass base are worth noting for researchers tracing how such agencies documented people and events.
