Few details survive for this glass negative beyond its caption title, "Harvard line-up," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its accompanying card. The Bain agency was a New York news photo service that supplied pictures of sports, politics and city life to newspapers in the early twentieth century. A team line-up picture of this kind typically shows players posed in uniform, often in rows, so that editors could name each athlete for readers. With no date or season recorded, the picture is best read as a window onto college baseball in Boston during the 1900s.
