A standing electric automobile at a re-charging station, dated about 1919, comes from a Seattle studio, Cress-Dale Photo Co., and was registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. Electric cars were popular for city errands in the 1910s because they ran quietly and needed no hand crank, but their limited range and the spread of gasoline cars with electric starters soon shrank their market. The picture is a useful record of the charging infrastructure that once supported them. The date and details come from an old caption card and may have been revised since.
