Children dressed in bright holiday clothes are the focus here, with firecrackers and fireworks marking the Fourth of July. Cards like this were mass-produced in the early twentieth century, when the postcard was at the height of its popularity and cheap color printing made patriotic greetings easy to send across the country. Many of them show children playing with fireworks, a scene that reflects how common home firecracker use was before local laws tightened. Such cards also reveal the imagery of the period, with flags, red-white-and-blue palettes, and sentimental portrayals of youth that stood in for national pride.
