The tail fins of the British rigid airship R-34 set this view apart, showing the rear framework and control surfaces of a craft that made the first airship crossing of the Atlantic in July 1919. After reaching Mineola on Long Island, New York, the R-34 turned back toward Britain, and its arrival drew wide press attention. Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, covered such events, but the record's title and date are unverified, so the exact moment of the picture is uncertain. The close view of the metal fin structure is worth a look for anyone interested in early rigid airship design.
