A tall steel mooring mast for R 33, a British rigid airship of the 1920s, is the subject here. R 33 was built at Cardington and modeled on the German Zeppelin L 33, which had been forced down in England in 1916 and studied by British engineers. A mooring mast was a tower where an airship's nose was tethered so the craft could swing freely with the wind, and R 33 spent much of its service tied to such masts. The record gives no date for this glass negative, and its title comes from unverified Bain News Service notes, so the exact year and location should be treated with caution.
