The record for this glass negative names only the Lakehurst hangar, the large airship shed at the Naval Air Station in New Jersey, and it comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. The Bain News Service, a Manhattan photo agency active from the early 1900s through the 1920s, supplied news pictures to newspapers, and its negatives are often the only surviving record of a scene. Lakehurst's hangars were built to house rigid airships, and the station became the center of American lighter-than-air work in the 1920s and 1930s. The date is not recorded, so the exact moment is uncertain, but the structure itself is worth noticing for its sheer scale.
