Five named sitters make this Bain News Service glass negative stand out: W. Camp, Mrs. C. Van Rensselaer, Col. F. M. Davis, Lt. R. Breeze and Sgt. Coombs. George Grantham Bain founded the New York agency around 1899, and it supplied newspapers with news and feature photographs in the early twentieth century. The titles come from the caption cards that accompanied the negatives and have not been independently verified, and no date is recorded, so the occasion and year remain open. The mix of three military ranks and a woman listed only as Mrs. is worth noticing when reading the group as a record of who was photographed together.
