Titled for Mrs. Ellen A. O'Grady, this glass negative takes its name from the caption cards that the Bain News Service attached to its images. Bain's New York agency, founded around 1899, sent photographers out to cover news, events and public figures, and its negatives were filed for sale to newspapers. The record gives no date, and the name is unverified, so the sitter and the occasion remain uncertain. Still, the collection shows how a working picture agency recorded its city in the early twentieth century.
