A group of seven named women, including a baroness, makes this glass negative stand apart from the single-sitter portraits on the board. The title comes from caption information the Bain News Service wrote on the negative or its card, and the record does not confirm those names or a date. The Bain News Service was a New York picture agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, so this group portrait likely reflects the society and press photography of that era. Its large-format glass negative preserves fine detail that prints made from it can still show.
