This ink drawing pairs two Worcester theaters on one sheet: the Worcester theater on Exchange Street, opposite Waldo Street, and the Franklin Square theater. Dated 1925, it is held by the Library of Congress in its Architecture, Design and Engineering collection, where drawings like this one document how a building was intended to look and to work. The 1920s were a busy period for theater construction, as newer motion picture houses appeared alongside established playhouses and competed for the same downtown audiences. Comparing the two buildings on one sheet gives researchers a useful view of that competition in Worcester.
