The only identifying detail here is the title "Ansten," which the Library of Congress lists as unverified and taken from the negative or its caption card, so it may be a person's name, a place, or a transcription error. The image itself is a glass negative no larger than 5 by 7 inches, part of the George Grantham Bain Collection. Bain News Service, the New York agency that Bain ran, sold news pictures to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century, and its glass plates capture the period's events, people, and everyday scenes. Because the record gives no date, the best way to read this plate is as one example of that working news archive.
