Two senior officers who share the same initials and first name, Gen. Charles P. Summerall of the Army and Adm. Charles P. Plunkett of the Navy, appear together at a baseball game in 1925. Summerall was a prominent Army commander who later became Army Chief of Staff, and a pairing of service leaders at a ballpark shows how public officials of the era were often seen at sporting events. The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a New York agency that sent news photographs to papers across the country. The title was taken from caption data that has not been independently verified, so the identification should be read with that in mind.
