The subject here is a man identified only as Dr. Bridges, a name taken from caption information that the Bain News Service recorded and that has not been independently verified. George Grantham Bain built his New York agency in the early 1900s, supplying newspapers with photographs of public figures, events and everyday news until the 1920s. Its glass negatives, many of them small plates, survive in large numbers, and the record here gives no date, so the portrait is best read as one example of the agency's fast, identifiable work for the press.
