Only days after Yankee Stadium opened in the Bronx in April 1923, President Warren G. Harding was photographed there, and this glass negative is dated April 24, 1923. The Yankees' new park stood across the Harlem River from the Polo Grounds and was among the largest ballparks of its day, quickly becoming a stage for national events as well as baseball. The picture comes from the Bain News Service, a wire photo agency whose plates record much of the era's politics and sport. The title comes from the agency's own notes, which were not independently verified, so it is worth reading the identification alongside the image.
