Ticket buyers at the new Yankee Stadium are the focus of this picture, which was taken on October 10, 1923, the day the ballpark opened its gates for the World Series. The stadium had been completed only that spring, and the Bronx ballpark drew enormous interest as the Yankees faced the New York Giants for the title. The Bain News Service, a wire-photo agency, made the image on a glass negative, so it captures the crowds and the ticket window in fine detail. It is a useful record of how big-event baseball was sold and attended in the early 1920s.
