Two stage performers, Phyllis Neilson-Terry and Lyn Harding, are named together in this portrait, which sets it apart from the many single-sitter studio pictures in the Bain collection. Neilson-Terry came from a theatrical family, the daughter of actors Julia Neilson and Fred Terry, and Harding was a Welsh-born actor known for villainous and character roles on the London and American stage. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency, made and distributed pictures like this one for newspapers during the early twentieth century. The record gives no date, and the names come from caption data the agency recorded, so the exact occasion remains unconfirmed.
