This 1915 color lithograph by Edgar Wright presents a YMCA dug-out in France, a shelter where the association offered soldiers refreshments and a place to rest near the front. By 1915 the YMCA had volunteers and supplies serving British troops on the Western Front, providing tea, writing paper and a quiet corner away from the fighting. The poster's subject tags also link it to war bonds and funds in Great Britain, a reminder that appeals for donations were as much a part of wartime life at home as the campaign itself.
