Thanksgiving postcards were a popular form of holiday greeting in the early twentieth century, when the illustrated postcard was at the height of its appeal and mailing one cost little. Cards like this one typically paired a cheerful scene of harvest abundance, such as turkeys, pumpkins, corn, or families gathered at the table, with a short printed wish for the season. Many were printed in large runs by commercial lithographers, which is why similar designs turn up across many collections today. Looking closely at the color work and the lettering can reveal much about the printing methods and the sentiments that shaped holiday mail of the period.
