Thanksgiving postcards were a staple of the early twentieth century, when the holiday was still settling into its fixed place on the national calendar. Cards like this one, which carries only the title "Thanksgiving," would have been mailed as cheerful greetings, often decorated with harvest imagery such as turkeys, corn, pumpkins, and autumn leaves. Such postcards were inexpensive and widely sold in the years before the First World War, when the picture postcard craze was at its height. Their bright colors and stylized scenes offer a window into how families marked the holiday and how it was pictured in popular culture.
