Paragould, the seat of Greene County in northeastern Arkansas, takes its name from two railroad men, and its courthouse stands as the civic center of a town that grew up along the rail line. The caption card records no date, so the picture is best read as a view of a county seat during a period when many Arkansas counties were building or rebuilding their courthouses.
