Lewisville, the seat of Lafayette County in southwestern Arkansas, is the subject here, and its courthouse, built in 1892 and demolished in 1942, stood for half a century. Courthouses of that period were usually the largest public buildings in their towns, housing county records, court sessions and local offices. The caption card gives no date for the photograph, so the picture can only be placed within those fifty years, making it a record of a building no longer standing.
