This print shows the Battle of La Quasina, a fight near Santiago de Cuba, the eastern port that became a central objective of the Spanish-American War. In June 1898, American forces advanced inland toward the city, and skirmishes in the hills and villages around it, including Las Guasimas, were among the first sustained clashes of the Santiago campaign. The shelflist card links the piece to Kurz & Allison, a Chicago firm that produced illustrated views of the war for a public eager for news from Cuba. The record gives no date, so the title and the card's attribution are the main clues to its origin.
