Few details in the record pin down the exact block, but this view of Evanston, Illinois, the lakeside suburb just north of Chicago, shows a street lined with parked automobiles. The notes date it to the 191- decade, roughly the 1910s, when the Ford Model T had put motoring within reach of many middle-class families and curbside parking was becoming a familiar sight in towns like this one. Pictures from this period show how quickly the car changed streets that had been built for horses and pedestrians.
