Hope Hampton, the subject of this glass negative, was a stage and silent-film actress who drew frequent press attention in the 1910s and 1920s, when her name was a regular fixture in New York newspapers. The picture comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, the body of work produced by the Bain News Service, a photo agency that supplied images to newspapers across the country in the early twentieth century.
