The caption on this glass negative names Douglas Fairbanks and an E. Knoblock, but the record gives no date and notes that the names come from unverified caption data, so the identification should be read with that caution. Fairbanks was among the most recognizable film performers of the 1910s and 1920s, and the Bain News Service, a New York photo agency founded by George Grantham Bain, sent images of such figures to newspapers and magazines. Bain's glass negatives, many of them 5 by 7 inches or smaller, offer a useful record of the press photography of that era.
