This is a piece of everyday money rather than a portrait made for display: a one-dollar note from the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The one-dollar note was first issued in 1862, when Congress authorized paper currency to help finance the Civil War. Washington's portrait has occupied the center of the front since 1869. The ornate back carries the Great Seal of the United States, which makes the design worth a closer look.
