Rather than a view of a single station, this lithograph is a general advertisement for the Pennsylvania Railroad's services, ticket offices, and depots, and its record ties it to Harrisburg and Philadelphia. By the 1870s the company, chartered in 1846, had grown into one of the largest railroads in the country, running between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg, the state capital, lay on its main line across the Susquehanna. The sheet was credited to the Philadelphia firm W.P. Mange & Co. around 1874, and it shows how railroads used commercial art to direct travelers to their offices and stations.
