Upper Sandusky, the county seat of Wyandot County in north-central Ohio, is the setting for this view of an oil well. The estimated date falls in the 1910s, when drilling still reached well beyond the big fields of northwestern Ohio. Those fields around Lima and Findlay drew a boom in the 1880s and 1890s, and smaller operations like this one continued long after the rush faded. The catalog details come from an old caption card that has been revised over time, so the exact site should be read with some caution.
