Little is recorded about this glass negative beyond its title, which the Bain News Service noted on its caption cards without independent verification. It is labeled as the Prince of Wales in New York, a reference to the British heir's visits to the United States in the years after World War I, when his appearances drew large crowds and heavy press attention. The Bain agency, a commercial news photo service active in the early twentieth century, sent photographers to record such events for newspapers, so the plate reflects the public interest a royal visit generated.
