The Fabian theater and the adjoining Fabian Building stood on Church Street near Market Street in Paterson, New Jersey, and this ink drawing records the complex as it was designed in 1926. Its inclusion in the Library of Congress's Architecture, Design and Engineering collection makes it a useful document of how commercial and entertainment buildings were planned in the 1920s, when movie houses were multiplying in American cities. Pairing a theater with an office block above or beside it was a common way to make a downtown lot pay, and the drawing shows how the two uses were fitted together on a single site.
