Women at a spinning wheel, a loom, and a sewing table fill this etching, titled "Making clothes for the boys in the army." It is plate 11 from *V. Blada's War Sketches*, drawn and published in Baltimore in 1864 by Adalbert Volck, a local dentist who worked under that pseudonym and sympathized with the Confederacy. With Union blockades limiting imported cloth in the South, home spinning and weaving for soldiers' garments was a real and urgent task, and the print presents it as a patriotic duty.
